Racking that gets hit stops being racking. Most of what follows is cheap next to a damaged upright, and all of it is held here in Leixlip, so it goes out with the bays rather than six weeks later.

What to fit and when
- Anywhere a forklift turns: frame protectors on the end uprights of every run. This is the single cheapest thing you can do to a warehouse.
- Pedestrian routes and doorways: barrier protection, which takes a knock across a span rather than at one leg.
- Hand-picked levels above floor height: mesh decking or timber, so nothing falls through the gap between beams.
- Non-standard pallets: pallet support bars across the beam pair, so the load sits on steel rather than on its own edges.
- Assembly, packing and goods-in: a bench at the right height beats a pallet on the floor.
